Good to hear that things are moving Any news on the costs for sandblasting yet? It is a fantastic looking instrument and a major achievement, the sandblast design is very tempting but cost does unfortunately have to be factored in (I keep going back and watching the podcast again, is it morbid to want to see the pictures of the piles of junked bodies? )

A couple of weeks ago I dropped the slide that came with my MM blues guitar (it shattered quite spectacularly after it slipped out of my hand at an open mic night) so I’ve finally got round to sending of the neck of an absinth bottle I’ve been saving for about half a year. Ian has worked wonders with it and produced a slide that exceeded my expectations. I’ve been playing with some video software so thought I’d share the video I created with the new slide. (the slide is wonderful, the playing tends a bit more towards the average)

An interesting discussion, I must admit I always thought of pub rock as the Friday evening covers type band but two genres sharing the same name makes sense (and I too dislike the term “dad rock”). I wonder if the original pub rock has slowly morphed into the covers type band as the band members get older, realise they will never achieve stardom but still want to keep playing. These days its much harder for any band playing original music to get spots in normal pubs, if its not something the punters know and can sing (scream) along to then the landlords don’t seem to be interested. I played base in just such a band for a couple of years (I’m not a base player, but the one they left them in the lurch and I got bullied into it) with people who had started out doing some really good original work but had to change what they did just to keep getting the gigs, they started out doing nearly all their own work with a few covers thrown in but by the time I was involved they were nearly all covers and they would get away with slipping in a couple of their own in amongst everything else (and it’s a terrible blow for some to realise that they have become too old to live fast and die young)

One day I’m going to have to do a slide cover of Poison Street - just wish I could play harp like that, incredible solo. The harp player is Mark Feltham, I've seen him a couple of times and its always worthwhile. He played on the homeless charity version of gimme shelter with Tom Jones and it really adds something to to it
Its a nice lazy sunday so I've been listening to something a bit more laid back today

Its worth noting that Motorhead isn’t the only thing Eddie Clarke did (although I’m sure its all he will be remembered for) Some of his other work might appeal to the forum a bit more

Hi TT That tape doesn’t mean anything’s split, I have a Tanglewood bought (new) in 96 that came with tape that’s exactly the same as that (its an original feature) Nick

Hi cliffardo I second Davids comments, I am also mainly a fingerpicker and was unsure about getting a mm guitar without being able to play it first but having taken the plunge it was well worth it, certainly far better than anything else I tried in the affordable price bracket. I also managed to get a busker tricone recently, if you can find one you won’t regret it (and having tried both I’m not convinced the National Resophonic tricone is any better)

Vagabond, I can't guarantee that, but if you're interested, I do know how to get one. Shine On Michael But can you tune it ? Probably not Creolian, I suspect I’d spend so long twiddling with it I’d never get round to learning how to play. (I was originally taught guitar by a guy who also played sitar but only very occasionally, tuning it may have had something to do with that as well )

Thanks MississippiBlue, your not wrong about the guitar. I've played it pretty much every day since I got it and I like it better each time. I nearly spent the money on a Martin (another long time ambition) in the same price range and am so glad I went with the MM guitar (the shop did say that they had a couple of Michael's guitars a few years ago but they cant get them anymore)
The problem I have now is I've decided I should have the shiny one as well and I've spent my guitar budget for this millennium (I've tried explaining that if you can count how many guitars you have then you don't have enough but its not working at the moment)

I’ve had my new mm blues guitar for about a month now and having spent some time getting acquainted with it I wanted to add my voice to what’s already been said about these instruments, I am seriously impressed both with the guitar and also the service received from Michael. Having been a little reluctant to buy without being able to play it first I’m really glad I did. I’m not a natural slide player (although the DB slide that was included does seem to work better than the old chrome one I had lying around) and mainly play fingerpicking style. I have to say that the tonal quality far surpasses my expectations (and also surpasses the quality of anything I played in the same price range) and I’ve found that there are songs I would not expect to work well that actually seem to gain something from it and work really well (John Renbourn’s The Hermit sounds far better than I expected, the problem is now I’ll have to learn more than just the intro section) So thanks Michael for such a great guitar and thanks also to everyone on the forum as all the prior discussions answered most of the questions I thought of (& also a few I didn’t ) before committing to buying it Nick
