I am not bidding but asked out of interest if it was wood or metal body.this is the reply i got. "It's metal. Painted to look like wood. It looks like the original paint has been painted over then someone has tried to remove it"

It does look to be a late 1930's era Duolian that originally had the simulated brown wood grain finish. Radiused rosewood fingerboard, solid headstock, 14 fret body. A very desirable guitar and probably great to play if you can get past the bad repaint on the body and neck and then have the setup work done. Do the frets show some grooves in the photos? So maybe factor that in with the neck set and cleanup.

Looks like the bakelite headstock overlay was removed. Likely a 37 or so pianograin like mine in my avatar photo...

I was wrong in the above comment... must be a duolian , and i dont think they had the headstock overlay...mine is a triolian with binding and headstock overlay.
The one in the auction βcouldβ have belonged to Blind Boy Fuller...looks like a blind guy did the paintjob, right?

There is no question about what it is. A late 30s Duolian. What it is worth in that condition is a whole other discussion, but it is a Duolian.

This looks more interesting to me. Suspect it will go for slightly more than current bid though. CLICK

Good luck on that. Approach the finish with mild implements first...naptha, citrus, 0000 steel wool, etc...you may have an original finish under all the glop. Despite all the folks akways complaining about Ebay...it is the best place to find good stuff at fair prices... I just snagged one of these on ebay this morning (not the one in photo)

Thanks guys for your best wishes! I can hardly believe I've got a national duolian! Quick 130 mile round trip and she's home. Whilst looking at all the negatives,as you do of course before buying anything like this I forget just how beautiful she is! Lovely to look at feels fantastic and even the paint jobs growing on me. Full of character and that over used word mojo. This guitar is MOJO! Now for the best bit. Using the strings on her (ancient!) I tuned her up into open D and she plays! Not a buzz, not a rattle just sustain that goes on forever. I can't believe my luck. I often said I would one day find a national in a charity shop and I like have! Ok,an online charity shop but it still counts in my book. Thanks PD for posting the link and thanks again to you all for your encouragement and best wishes. Best wishes to you all, a very happy John
