A heads up for the London Guitar show @ Kempton park Racecourse (just off the M3) on Sunday the 29th 10 til 4pm.
Not very well publicised or I am not reading the right stuff I guess.
I will go and probably as usual moan about the electric noodlers overpowering everything but each to there own...
Anyway drop in if you can and support all things guitar related.

I'll put on my Firebird "Tee" shirt and try get along. It's only a couple of miles down the A308 for me. The entrance fee of £10 leaves me wondering though; I shall be going to the West London Amateur Radio Show there the following weekend and the entrance fee for that is only £5. The old old story of charging what it's anticipated the public will withstand rather than what's fair I suppose?
I reckon it won't be a patch on the first national slide guitar convention at Atherstone!

Had a chat with Ian, main reason for attending. What a gent! He seemed to have had a very successful day which is good.
I also spoke briefly to Stewart Ward and Charlie Chandler. I saw CBJ demonstrating one of his cigar box creations, so I didn't disturb him.
I saw a 1930-ish National Triolian that was slated for sale at auction in London, guide 1-2K. It was understrung so I hope the buyer has his or her wits about his /herself? Another stand had several old Nat solids, they had a couple of those USA shaped body examples. One stand had a Supro amp- kinda cute right down to the factory engraved "scratches" around the input sockets. Hmmm.
I saw Session amps being used on about 5 stands as noise generators for the thrashing brigade The BluesBaby seems to be rather popular.
The ubiquitous indiscriminate distorted pentatonic waffling noise got the better of me I'm afraid, so I had to bail out early. That and dodging the guys walking around with guitars. No doubt looking for a socket somewhere.

Nice review, Steve.
The only reason I ever go to guitar shows is to meet friends that are exhibiting or playing at them. Having done that I usually rush round, have a quick look and then escape as quick as possible. I always carry a pocketful of headache pills!

A good show, although a headache is the price to pay.
a little noisy but some places to escape and try out stuff in quiet areas.
I met Lucy Zirins and introduced her to Alister Atkin who is showing some fantastic Gibson and Martin inspired homages, Alister talks kitsch and I have sown the seed with regard to commissioning a custom Smeck inspired guitar with my name up the fingerboard and some hula pinup logos for patina (watch this space).
I spent a good chunk of time with Ian Mcwee at Diamond bottle necks and he was sharing space with Wolfram slides and Dave king. There were some interesting innovators and some high end droolworthy guitars (replay acoustics). The Award session amps are a bargain (I recommend you people check them out) they even sell just the Amp Chassis which you can fit to your own cabinet so lots of interesting options.
I met Mary Spender who has a good youtube channel for the young hip & connected (that,s not me but I can cross the generations).
So I am home, knackered a new slide added to the collection (Thanks Ian) and did I mention I picked up a 37 Epiphone Electar jazz box with the Horseshoe pickup...
Slide on

Greetings. So is the Electar a model M? With 2 or 3 hex shaped knobs and the trap door on the back? If so, nice. If not, nice also. I have an early model M with the plated horseshoe. Loud. Solid. One of the first production electrics.

I haven't seen Alister for many years, not since his workshop was in the Cowshed on a farm in Womanswold, Kent. That was in 2005.
His company builds great guitars and along the way they have sold guitars to some very seriously eminent musicians. It is a great success story and Alister has worked hard to achieve his success.
I didn't know you know Lucy, but it all sounds good!
This afternoon I went for a walk in the woods and then came home and played for a while. I think I'm done with guitar shows, unless I need to be there

I only met Lucy today but Alister thinks I am a serial womaniser as I not only introduced Lucy but also Mary Spender (youtube guitar blogger) who I also met for the 1st time, I was looking to join up the dots as Alister has a good roster of female singer song writers who play his guitars.
A good day although I do know what you mean with regard to guitar shows but it was a good catchup,
Lee
