I'm looking for a Vol pedal for my control-less reso. Any thoughts? Anybody use one with a built-in boost? Dunlop High Gain GCB80 looks like a possibility - anyone have experience with it? Ernie Ball users? Thanks!

Hi Resotonic,
Hopefully someone on here can advise you about volume pedals. I can't help because I have never used one on any guitar.

I too have never used one. I tried using a Yamaha expression pedal as a standalone volume pedal with a lash up of connector adapters to go into a stereo send/return port on a valve amp. Not very successfully I hasten to add.
I was always fascinated by the Morley approach that used optical control (or was it magnetic / hall effect- I admit I can't remember ATM) thus taking the familiar rack and pinion driven potentiometer out of the equation but I couldn't justify the cost when I could so easily rotate a knob on the guitar!
I have dallied with the idea of the Ernie Ball pedal(s) (there are two sizes available). These use a "Dacron" drive cord. This parallels Morleys approach to some extent and so far as I am aware, the "PROs" seem to favour the Ernie Ball pedals, but if the Terylene cord snaps then you're cattle trucked until you can fit a replacement which may be quite fiddly to carry out too.
So I'm sorry, not really any concrete advice here, and certainly not based on real world experience, but a few ideas to explore nonetheless.
I would however suggest exploring the send / return approach as well as the more obvious "straight into the amp input" method because potentially over driving the amp at input may not be acceptable.

After talking to a few techs & musos, it was suggested I need a preamp with vol control rather than a vol pedal. So I'm going to give that some research/testing. LR Baggs GigPro was recommended for piezo or contact-type pickups.
Thanks forum guys for the input!
