I trust you've sent a copy of that to eBay, Deuce?
Not that they'll do anything, of course......

I wrote to eBay twice about the Busker guitar that was being sold under false pretences as a Michael Messer guitar. I filled in the relevant forms and wrote to the correct department. They did absolutely nothing about it and I still have not received any kind of acknowledgement that I contacted them, I doubt if I will.
I very rarely use eBay as a seller or a buyer as I think it is a very precarious place to do business. I have bought and sold one or two things from eBay over the years, but very rarely. The company claims to be able to protect the vendor and the consumer, but they don't.

Glad it's sorted Deuce, it's the hassle as much as anything isn't it. I've never sold anything on eBay and don't think I would. Maybe I've been lucky but whenever I've bought anything on eBay (guitars) things have gone ok. I don't tend to get the magnifying glass out and as long as the guitar plays well I and is pretty much as described I'll overlook the odd ding. I think we all know that tin can alley is a good place to look for stuff, and people buying and selling at least have the knowledge that they are dealing with like minded people. Best wishes to you all, John

Like John, I am disinclined to sell on the world's largest pit of vipers. I too have enjoyed success buying guitars sight-unseen from that place, but the thought of dealing with hoi poloi gives me a touch of 'em. If I was so inclined, I'd create another account for the purposes of selling. That buyer was a bottom feeder and in any fair world his or her user name would be made public so we could all "give it the swerve"...

The vast majority of ebay users are straight up honest people making use of a very handy resource. The only times I've been disappointed is when I forgot the 'If it seems too good to be true' maxim.

While I totally agree that the majority of eBay sellers are honest, what happened to me was that eBay themselves let me down. I wrote to them about a misrepresentation and they ignored me.
This is a music forum, but as the subject of eBay is so relevant to all of us that buy and sell guitars, I will let this one run.

Deuce, I am sorry for the trouble and glad to hear that the guitar was returned in playable shape although IMHO with your expertise you could play a turnip strung with darning thread ... good luck on the resale - idiots need not bid.
I guess that's why the stupid Gibson will go out to Elderly when I can get it together to drag it to UPS...

I had a Continental style N single cone resonator, made in 1998, signed by Günther Lenz . I was told by the seller it was made in the Czech Republic by Franta Javurek. When I tried to sell it, I was told by somebody who read my eBay ad that Amistar stopped making guitars for Continental in 1996/7. Franta Javurek and AMI later confirmed this. There are so many potential problems on eBay.
I was lucky. I re- advertised, saying it was made in China, and assembled in Germany, and managed to sell for the purchase price.
Neither the person who sold it to me, or I were trying to con people. We both genuinely thought it was one of the famous Javurek Continentals.

I wonder of the continental that's been for sale in Chicago for the last few months is actually a "continental". Thanks for the info Peet.
When I was active on eBay I was adamant about a phone call if it was something expensive and obvious that no sane person would buy sight unseen with no trust established... Either as buyer or seller. This weeded out most of the squirrels.
Actually made a youngsters parents ok a purchase of a hohner tele (original prince model). This was a guitar I bought for 100$ and was getting bids close to 2k. The kid really wanted it and I accepted his bid of a lot less and cancelled some of the higher bids. One buyer was close to apoplectic when I cancelled his bid and ended the auction early. Too dumb or busy to read that I required a call he started emailing me some nastys. I published all the emails and got a few kudos and laughs, the kid got a guitar and was very happy. Happy seller, happy buyer... I love a happy ending.
Glad you at least got your guitar back TT, Could have been worse as in a buyer who damages something badly to avoid his own buyers remorse. I use Craigslist here and it's cash and face to face which increases the comfort level even if I can't get top dollar.
All best,
Jeff
