I've fitted a set of Martin Retro MM12s to an old spruce topped, ladder braced parlour.
I like them very much.
However, I'm now thinking about electrifying this one and wondered if anybody has any experience / knowledge of which type of pickup would be best.
From what I've read the best guess was that Charlie Christian used Monels on his Gibson but I can't afford a CC pickup.
All cheaper ideas gratefully accepted.

Hi PD I have a couple of Sixtus pickups that I am testing. I am very impressed with them. The soundhole pickup is very nice and is reasonably priced. €59.00 This is a small cottage industry business run by a very nice chap called Elmar. www.sixtus-pickups.com/product-page/sixtus-sh-soundhole-pickupShine On Michael

Hi -
The sixtus may not fit if the parlor has a small soundhole. Its 85mm x 35mm.
The Bill Lawrence A300 will fit a small soundhole but it clamps into the soundhole and I often have to rotate or angle it like an electric pickup for the best sound on the b string and it may scuff the soundhole edge. THat's the one I use and about the only one available that fits small soundholes
I don't know if the k&k pure mini is an option - I've read posts of several guitarists who are happy with it - but I don't know if it will work with monel.
I also used a schatten dualie but that needs a preamp which doubles the price and it stopped working right after awhile so I can't recommend that...

I too can vouch for Elmars Sixtus pickups, the one I have fitted to my own acoustic resonator is absolutely superb. I have a spare one off him too, as they sound so good

Just bought the reso sixtus pick-up for a wood dobro. Clear separation - just need to try it live. TT

I'm going to get one when they're back in stock.
In the meantime please keep us informed on how they perform.
