I am not talking gigging musicians just an opportunity to take a guitar to make things more like home.
I will start you off just returned from a French holiday (1000 mile round trip), much to the wife's annoyance the Dave King Dobro somehow got into the boot of the car !!!
I get restless if away from making noise for too long and the typical beach pool holiday is not for me anymore, apparently everything improves with age (except Bananas !!!)

Morning Lee! I am not sure this subject is really worthy of a thread on here. With respect, it's more like social network chat. Shine On Michael.

Hi there ! With respect, I'm not sure I agree. If I am getting the "jist" of the thread, the question is really : "what instrument .." (in this case, guitar) ".. can't you be without for long periods, such as holidays ?" Being in the young family way, bringing a guitar on holiday, like I used to, is just too much, but I brought my Beltona Tenor RESO 5-string ukulele with me (it fits into my wee back-pack, into the plane cabin. Nice wee bluesy jam on the balcony of my Dad's holiday apartment, in Majorca : Whilst playing away on it, the father of a Swedish family, on the ground floor apartment, looked up at me and said, in good English, but very Swedish accent : "Do you play "When I'm cleaning windas" ?" Ha ha ha !! Next year, I'm definitely bringing a guitar though. Now, which one ............. ?

This is where I would socially discuss guitar related topics, Messerbook!!!
I was just seeing who else had kept the guitar flame burning & where the gospel was spread.

If you can't beat 'em....
When I take a guitar on family holidays it is usually the 1133. I can take the neck off and the whole thing goes in my suitcase.
MMB 28s are a good travel guitar too. I might take one on my next holiday.

I always take a guitar, isn't that what a VW Bus is for? (not to mention beer, grub, walking gear, fishing gear (never used!), dog paraphernalia, telescope and so on and so forth.)
This year, we are going to The Dark Peak quite soon for a long weekend break, back four days and off to The Lizard for a week, back for one week and off to Patterdale for a week. I reckon that's about 1850 miles? Is that cheating?

I too have a VW bus but as I go deeper into the restoration more of it is in the garage than on the drive, next year I hope to head for france in it but we will see, certainly would mean more than one instrument...& maybe an amp

On any holidays that I am driving and have more unlimited luggage, I take my small Westfield Parlour guitar, that my son likes playing too.
I spent three weeks in Canada in an RV recently and had to fly. So a couple of weeks before I went, I found a childs electric guitar in a local charity shop, made a simple slab small body for it, dropped a Tele style bridge and pickup into it, took my tiny USB headphone amp and had something to keep my fingertips and slide chops in trim.
I guess besides a standard guitar collection, one could have a collection of travel guitars;-)

I see a holiday as a chance to get away from things for a while.

I find it difficult to be away from a guitar, especially if away for more than a week.

That's amazing, MM, or at least it is to me. How did you pack the amps and I am wonder also did you transport by air? Also did you play most of them or just a few and were glad to have the others with you?
