Just spent a while sifting through YouTube, all sorts of odd interesting stuff on there. Any other interesting finds Jesse Thomas playing a Roland Midi guitar For lovers of UK lap, Felix Mendelsohn and his Hawaiian Serenaders - Strange idea about filming 78s, but it works somehow Another look at the Fine Resophonic lab Mike Cooper on there somewhere

Here is a short film that a guy called Fredrik Kinbom has put together about the Oahu lap slide guitars - particularly the cheap "student" models. Robn

Some lovely clips of film. I like the Chet Atkins Hawaiian Wedding Song, it is beautiful. A while ago I put a link to a YouTube clip of Jerry Byrd & Marty Robbins that I think is really wonderful, here it is again.. There are some other great clips of Byrd & Robbins, well worth seeing. Chet Atkins & Jerry Byrd did some great stuff together in the 50s, again well worth getting. I love original Del Vecchio nylon string resophonic guitars, they have a lovely tone. Shine On, Michael

Last year my son asked me to play some Elvis songs at his wedding. The Hawaiian Wedding song was one we'd planned to play but by the time we were on we had too much to drink and could only manage the easier Elvis tunes. I had assumed that it was written for an Elvis film - does anyone know its origin - who wrote it?
I had a go at transcribing the Jerry Byrd version of Kohala March. It appears to be in E tuning, but there is one part that can only be played with a backward slant yet he doesn't seem to be slanting. Have I got the tuning wrong?
cheers, Bill

Cheers Collin - got the right notes but on different strings. I'd have to change my strings to play in C6 so I'll continue in my version transposing E to D tuning. Keeping on topic, on the steel guitar forum I found this youtube link of Sol Hoopii www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=Beerrecords it's running slow at the moment so I've not watched it yet. Bill

Here's an interesting little novelty - Hannes Coetzee playing slide with a teaspoon held in his mouth whilst picking and fretting...a nice nice party piece.

I have this clip of Hacksaw Harney - it is in a documentary, but which one......I am not sure. It will see if I can find it.
Shine On, Michael.

These clips were recorded during the lads' recent gig at one of my regular haunts, Korks in Otley: couldn't be there 'cos I was gigging meself, innit? Not great quality [much better camera angle needed] but interesting.
Cheerily,
Gerry C
