Any likely mileage in this? Would mean tinkering with nuts / saddles etc, but I'm thinking of having a go initially with DADAD (no f# / g string). Then maybe DGDGD (no B string). Cheers TT

have started with D A D A D some years ago for non chord-orientated stuff (indian scales, balkan melodies). Switched to a short scale instrument because of the longer ways I had to go now with the slide. ended up with A D A D tuning because i did not use the low D string at all when playing these melodies and lines. to find out how the D A D A D tuning works for you you might leave all 6 strings on the guitar and start with "ben harper tuning"= D A DD A D.

The main thing (for me) is to have 1,5,1 notes. So DAD or GDG both have it. PT

Nowadays, I am mostly in CGCGCD which is a step down from DADAD but with the added flexibilty of quick runs between the top two strings. I claim no originality- I got it from Martin Simpson, but it does significantly reduce the tension which eases the stresses on the soundtable, and it is addictive...

I haven't tried this but I got the idea from 12 string - DADA(DD) or DGDG(DD)- the last (DD) being unison just for testing? I don't think you'd have to tinker with nuts and saddles this way.

These are modal tunings, because without the major third (or minor third) they are neither major or minor. As Oscar has said, ADAD is a good one. I believe the great Indian slide pioneer, Brij Kabra, uses this tuning. I have used DADDAD and CGCCGC for 35 years or so, it's a good one.
TT, I would just use DADDAD

Any samples of anything in this tuning on guitar or resonator to hear?
