He did not. He pressed the neck straight, put it all back together and is sending it back with his name/reputation on it. I'm pretty sure it'll be good.

Heat press of neck often works pretty well when done right...so you should be good to go with Marc...
That's your band link? Looks good will try to catch you when in NJ...

So...it arrived. I'm happy with it...not thrilled. There are a couple niggles that surprised me. The relief between the 1st and 14th fret is .028" It would be more if I went from the last fret. If one of my clients brought me a guitar with a truss rod with that much relief, I would consider it in drastic need. This guitar is, of course, a different story; but it's a lot of relief and keeps the guitar out of the range of "yummy" and puts it more in the category of "playable". But, before I sent it, it was "slide only."

Yes. I emphasized the optimistic outcome of a neck heat press in my previous post... It is not always doable depending on the wood...Results can vary wildly as one already said. If you want real low action probably fiber rod and new fingerboard is the way to go...or buy a new neck from NRP and keep the original for collector value. I put a new NRP neck on a duolian body and it worked out pretty well.

I bought a 1933 El Trovador on ebay last year--bit of a punt at £1500 inc.duty and shipping from USA but the vibe was right.Of course it needed work to the neck (someone had tried to straighten it with a couple of 3"woodscrews)!!!??!! WTF Anyway I know sod all about the technical side of things-as long as it feels and sounds nice I'm happy--but all the same I didn't believe that correcting 80 years of movement could be accomplished by the heat press method though it obviously works for some. Anyway a luthier removed the fretboard and realigned the neck by conscientiously planing it (over a period of three weeks) and with a new set of Stewmac tuners which look the part the result is a lovely guitar,a bit used and abused over the years but a gem all the same. I've now got a rescue cat and a rescue guitar!

The El Trov sounds nice. I have one that is in good shape but also has slightly bowed neck. I have access to a heat press bar, and plan to try it on the 33. I used the heat press bar on an old OS Stella with some improvement...sometimes you have to go thru several iterations of heat press to get it right... Some say the wood fibers realign, others say the fingerboard glue realigns and holds. Some sort of alchemy involved I think.

According to Marc, the 14 fret ones take the heat treatment better because the 3 piece necks have 2 glue joints to realign rather than 1 on the 12 fret necks. He heated it twice and the 2nd one didn't show any more improvement so he just had to go with it. I'm digging it anyway...but it sure would have been nice for it to really work perfectly.

Now I have to get to work at figuring out how to play it well enough to do it justice! When one pulls out an instrument like this, one better be able to deliver the goods!!!

I thought y'all might want to hear this guitar for yourselves. Then I thought...you might want to hear someone who can actually PLAY it the way it was intended. Oh, well....

Sorry CC but I forgot to ask. Are you using an original Coricidin Bottle or a reissue of one?
Thanks.
