Michael, I am interested in getting one of your 14 fret resonators. I am curious to know the current total cost including shipping to Oceanside California.I have heard and enjoyed the hot plate by national when I was teaching up at Port Townsend Blues fest a few years back.Mike Dowling was there with one. Do you know if I would have any trouble using that system with one of your guitars? Thanks Thomas

Hi Bluzman,
Welcome to our forum.
I like to keep all commercial MM related stuff in the Main Street section of the forum, that way it doesn't take over what is otherwise a non-commercial forum.
MM Guitars are now available in the US & Canada from Twelfth Fret in Toronto.
Fitting a National (NRP) Hot Plate pickup system to an MM guitar will not work because the dimensions (height) of the coverplates are slightly different, and the screw holes are not in the same place. My advice if you want a Hot Plate on an MM guitar, is to order a spare MM coverplate and get that turned into a hotplate.
I hope that is helpful.
Thanks for your enquiry,

Hi Mickey,
I have never tried or seen a Republic Hot Plate, so I cannot comment about its performance.
Regarding whether it would fit or not; it is highly likely it would fit as both companies that produce MM & Republic guitars use the same body factory. There is only one body factory in Shanghai for metal bodied resonators, but there are many neck manufacturers and assembly factories. Having said that, MM guitars all have 9 hole coverplates, whereas other brands vary, some are 8 and some are 9.
I am sure the Republic Hot Plate is fine, but without trying it I can't say any more.
I would not fit a HotPlate, I would fit a Flatbucker, or similar, and if necessary, volume and tone controls.

I like your idea of using an SM-57 personally. I'm wondering if there isn't some kind of harness for the mike that allows the player to move around a bit?

An SM57 would a bit too heavy on a rack or on the guitar, but I have seen Rob Ickes using a goose-neck mic of some sort attached to his Scheerhorn Dobro. Tim Scheerhorn makes, or did make, a Dobro coverplate with a holder for goose-neck mics. But an SM57 would be too heavy and awkward to attach to the guitar.
