You want to try playing open D on your reso at home and then get called for a bass gig up the road at 30 minutes notice. 5 string bass tuned BEADG - bass chaos for the first number "I Saw Her Standing There". Did you use a slide too? TT No - I only slid into the depths of despair.

I like threads like this because they inspire me to try out new things.... this morning, I retuned one of my guitars into Open D and had a blast playing... And this morning I tuned one of mine down to open D minor and I also has a blast playing .... a melancholy blast, if that's not a contradiction in terms.

I've been itching to play more Skip James (I play Special Rider, which is in Open G), so I'll be trying out the D minor soon ... I wanted to make more progress on my technique before tackling his songs, because he's such a great guitarist. One of the best, in my opinion. Hard Time Killing Floor is one of the songs that led me towards traditional music (back when O Brother came out).
