I recently bought a used Marshall Class 5 combo for $200 bucks...it's plenty of EL84 crunch and chime for the money...

...it's plenty of EL84 crunch and chime for the money... when thinking Marshall and EL84 at the same time [rather than EL34] i think the 18/30 watt "Winfield" head into a 16ohm 2 ea Weber ceramic silver bell cab. other than being a four time contributor to his retirement fund, no affiliation. www.winfieldamps.com/winfield.html$0.02 mitchfit

Oh dear, I thought I was reading the Throwback Thursday thread and you were talking about Woolworths amps for a minute. Sorry 'bout that.

These Winfield amps are new to me. They look great and I am sure they are excellent. I do have a problem with this type of imagery.... Maybe that's just me! Lovely guitar and lovely bike, but why put them together. However, for a boy from the South East of England brought up on Cowboy films, having an amp made in a town called Cochise would be as cool as ****!!!!. My handbuilt Fender Champ copy comes from Maidenhead on the River Thames near Windsor Castle. I guess that's cool if you live in Cochise! Shine On Michael

in "Winnies" defence, i'd say it was due to a Buddy Holly infatuation.
'course all of us kids here in NETEX knows where he come from!

I get that, but Buddy's was a 1958 sunburst Strat. I believe he also had a 1955 blonde Strat that he bought in Lubbock that year. Just bitching! Shine On Michael

The Winfield amps look interesting...single ended 6V6 is somewhat unique. Still the single ended EL84 Marshall Class 5 is quite an amp...especially with the mods that some guys have come up with...
But, I won't patronize ny business that endorse motorcycles ( or powder blue strats as well...).

Caught me in a brain-fog moment...just the thought of some jerk roaring down an otherwise quiet peaceful street on a motorcycle louder than a 747 puts me in a rage...I never owned a Champ (had a GA5 and hated it) and was thinking never saw a single ended 6L6 amp, while also recalling the rare class A parallel 6V6 Gibson GA8... still can't equate 6V6 with class A clean sine wave...

generally, the color of a guitar means less than zero to me, but i don't care for the color of that strat.
and if i wanted a '58 motorcycle, it'd be a triumph bonneville.
on the other hand, his cyclone amp got rave reviews from tone quest.
[never played one myself]
and unsubstantiated rumor has it that "Keef R" ordered two of them from aridzonia after he played one at a studio in NYC where he was burning a disc.
