I currently own a Shubb vintage capo which I purchased for my guitar which has a slightly wider vintage neck, I quite liked the Shubb as it has a adjustable screw at the back , the only problem with the capo is it doesn't quite fit across the width of the guitar neck. I was potentially going to buy a Kyser capo but I thought I would ask the forum which is the best. I want a wide one to fit a Martin and Kalamazoo I don't want it to damage the back of the neck by depressing too hard. Any recommendations would be much appreciated

I use both kyser and schubb, and I haven't had any neck issues with either. they make a schubb for a 12 string , model s3, maybe that schubb model would work for you. I have a variety of neck styles so sometimes one won't work and the other will.
The issue with the kyser that I have had is that it gets dents from being used and I don't think the rubber can be replaced, whereas they sell rubber sleeves for the schubb.

I have two identical Shubb capos, and with that back screw I can fit them anywhere, even on my acoustic with a massive neck. Really, I never tried any other high tech capos.

Ive got the cheap version of these www.elliottcapo.com/product/elliott-guitar-capo/ Called Paige.Bought the wide proflie one..Where it meets the neck it had some sort of rubber/plastic. Didnt like the look of it,so copied the above elliott capo. And glued a good bit of leather there. Really like it, although it will only get to the seventh fret(45mm neck).

Good luck with the schubb. I also use a paige on my gibson nl reissue - she likes it like that.

These things are all personal taste, but I have used Shubb capos on all my guitars for the past 30+ years. I have tried all the major brands and even been offered an endorsement deal on G7th capos, but none of them work for me as well as Shubb.
As well as being excellent capos, Shubb sell a complete range of spares, so when components wear out, such as the rubber sleeve, the spring, the plastic screw-cap, etc, they can be replaced for a few pence/cents.
I'll stick with Shubb

Shubb = industry standard. For good reasons.

Thread resurrection I'm afraid. Which capo should I use on a 1936 Dobro M-32 which has a radiused fretboard and a very pronounced V section neck? Oh, and I don't want to risk damaging the neck in any way, please. One of them elasticated jobbies? or the RJ trick of pencil and piece of string? or is there a suitable proprietary brand? Ithangyooo.

A google search leads me to think that the Shubb SV3 is probably what I'm looking for. Is this right? The problem is that they don't seem to be available any more. What to do, what to do... Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi Pickersditch,
Get the Shubb 12 string capo. I am not sure of its model number, but that is the one I use on my 'fat neck' guitars.

The Schubb 12 string is the S3, I found it on amazon if you are in the UK.

I have several types of capos, mostly older, and find that a piece of rubber or plastic tubing slid over the bar will fix an otherwise not totally-clamping capo. FYI There is a seller from China on USA eBay offering capos for less than $2.00 each, shipping included! Keywords for the auction are "new Folk Capo". I ordered a few.
