Thanks Pete. Of course, as soon as I read Jack Bruce's name I could see who it is! Charlie Watts would most likely have been on drums.

On the subject of Throwback Thursday (on a Sunday?) and Jo Ann Kelly, here are a couple of beautiful photographs that turned up on a friend of mine's Facebook news feed. Mississippi Fred McDowell at the Bridge House pub, Elephant & Castle, London, 1968. I would love to be able to credit the photographer, but nobody knows who took the pics. Shine On Michael

Yes, that's the same venue from a different angle. Looks like it was taken by Dave, or by someone sitting next to him.

I know it's not Thursday... I was sent this photo a couple of days ago by Pascal Mesnier. Michael Messer, Ed Genis and Pascal Mesnier, at the Weavers, Islington, London, 1996 (I guess the photo was taken by Mike Lewis) ( National Glenwood, National wood-bodied Triolian, 'Tonks' Washburn, Fine Resophonic Triplate) Shine On Michael

Alan, we must have met - I also attended all those Blues Loft Gigs plus a few others. Freddy King was stunning! I was the longhaired bloke clutching notebook, biro and scribbling madly....the reviews I did at around that time always made me cringe with embarrassment when seeing them in print. (If I knew then what I know now) I'll see if I can locate the Freddy King review I did for Soul Music Monthly. Ron Watts never charged me the entrance fee.

Yup, I remember and I was the one with the curly Hendrix mop and full mutton chop sidies down to my chin. (Mungo Jerry copied me as I started this look in 1966, I kid you not). There's a tale to tell about the Freddy King gig at The Nags.... My mate, the guitarist / singer in our little blues band at the time had the Freddy King album "Let's Hide Away and Dance Away." Mr. King autographed the album for him which was then raffled at half-time. Guess who won it? NOT ME! The guitarist / singer did! He got his own album back, autographed! I assure you the raffle was not fiddled - he was just bl**dy lucky! He's still got it.

Trawling through past features I've noticed Michael has contributed a healthy amount of discussions concerning the life, times and musicianship of the late Louisiana Red. Being Thursday I thought I'd add this 1996 effort of mine written for the Orbis series The Blues Collection (issue 38) which came with a free CD the contents of which are discussed. Rather lengthy (9 pps) minus the many illustrations etc. The sub headings were not of my choosing.... ourblues.net/2011/12/19/louisiana-red/
