Well done Jack! The BB King museum in Mississippi has a list of people who have given money to fund it, I saw no names of any Rocks stars (well none I knew). It maybe that they have given to other things ( eg: EC has his `Crossroads` charity ) But I would have though that record companies would have loved to have their artists names on the list , even if the artists have put their spare cash elsewhere.

Maybe companies would consider it competitive to their artist's sales, I wonder if its something covered in their contracts? Jack White seems to have a growing committment to the old blues and I don't believe he is under contract. I'm pretty impartial to his musical efforts in that area, though I liked the white stripes but he also has this project going for PBS/BBC Arena which I am thus far looking forward with some curiosity to: www.pbs.org/about/news/archive/2015/american-epic/

I used to be quite unsure on him but ever since I watched 'it might get loud', the documentary he did with the edge and Jimmy page I have developed a huge amount of respect for him.
I really like the second album he did with the raconteurs too, although it might not be everyone heres cup of tea.
All the best David

Its always good when you see the names of Blues artists credited in some way, and Jack has given publicity to many names his usual record buyers would not have heard of. John Mayall and Cream also had a list of song writers in the `60s that lead me to other Blues players . In those days we all looked forward to a new Led Zep. LP to see who had given them the ideas for songs like Whole Lot `a Love, Nobodies fault but mine, Bring it on home etc. etc. Turns out it was some guys called Page and Plant. I wonder if they still get any money in royalties?

Pete - I believe a number of titles that Page and Plant reworked and claimed were reassigned to the earlier "composers". I put that in quotes, because, in fairness to P and P, many songs were rewritten and claimed by subsequent artists during the first part of the 20th crntury. IMO it was only when big money came rolling in, the lawyers became motivated...

Memphis Minnie and her [at that time] husband Kansas Joe McCoy recorded "When the Levee Breaks" in 1929. it was written about the great Missesmiller flood of 1927, where many blacks were "conscripted" to build/reinforce the levee, sometimes at gunpoint. so much for "Juneteenth"!!! while Minne was credited for the song, it was along with LZ, et al. funny how JP was so totally fair with every member of LZ and all of their song credits. but---- i read an interesting explanation of why there was no financial loss or gain involved in this particular act of piracy. after 75 years, songs {USA) go into the public domain. on the face of it, this explains why so many old blues songs get covered, free. www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=335problem is the cover was released in 1971..do the math. well documented when the original 78rpm record was released. mitchfit but any ole song released before 1939 is a freebee now! if your moral compass is completely broken. even the great Tibetian Philosopher, Homer Simpson weighed in on this one: {done in spanish for MM's sake)

The LZ version of Levee is so different from the MM version, I (and obviousky the lawyers) think splitting the credit was fair. And the title of a song is not protected.

Led Z. have been told off too many times for stealing others ideas. Though to be fair as Fredcapo says, they are much reworked, (and some almost to destruction) But 3 I listed were all (when first released by LZ) said to be by P or P@P, it was not until law suits had been served that the `Ideas Men` behind the songs go any credit. `Nobody`s Fault but Mine` should have had a Blind W J credit if only for the title (looks like Blind WJ got it from somewhere other than his imagination, but you have to stop somewhere....I guess `Trad. arg. Page` would have done. I have not done any resent research on this and it maybe all the artists are now credited on new LZ CDs.... its about time
