Hi
The best way to tell the age of your guitar is by the serial number, it is most likely stamped on the top of the headstock. Are you able to tell us what that is?
All the best David

Its a Regal 13 fret model. It would have been built in / after 1937. TT

Can anyone comment on the era of the decal? Not sure I've seen that one. Don't have Mark's book with me. Mark? This guitar was marketed as a "Norwood Chimes" by Regal. It is late 30's and looks to have a dovetail neck joint.

Hello Rick I was wondering if you'd seen this one. The logo is the cheap two colour stencil. It is in the book, in the middle of the three shown on page 105. This guitar seems to be a mid version between the early ones and your 1947 guitar. Same coverplate as yours. I would be interested to see if it contains any internal signatures and pencil annotations like yours.

It would be nice to see if there are any signatures or annotations. Plus, whether it has a soundwell and a neckstick.

The only number that I was able to find on the guitar, was on the coverplate : 1,896,484 other pats. pend. I'm no expert, have no idea where to locate a signature or annotation.

Hello Mike My apologies for talking across you to Rick without bringing you up to speed on these instruments. Information is quite sparse. They appear to have been made towards the end of the 30s and into the Valco era from 1941 onwards. As Rick says, they were sometimes sold through Montgomery Wards catalogue and sometimes branded as "Norwood Chimes" insrruments with pearl overlays on the headstock. I have included a page from my book (updated version) that explains some of it and also includes John Dopyera's recollection of these instruments. Rick has supplied me with the further information concerning the signatures and pencil notes inside the body on his guitar.
