I think my intonation problems might be much easier to resolve than I had thought. I don't think the biscuit has anything to do with it. I changed the strings when I got my tenor resonator, and I think the two base strings I put on were a tiny tad larger. My real intonation issue is on the lower frets near the head nut, where the strings go sharp when I fret, but only on the two base strings, and only occasionally. Anyway, at a jam last night, a luthier told me to put a capo at the first fret and check and see if I still had the issue. Since I don't use a capo on my tenors or banjos, I had never tried one of this tenor. Well, I had no problem when I used the capo. So I'm going to get some graphite and lube the slots and the base strings where they go over the slots. When I tuned over the past couple of days, I could hear a ping every now and then when I tuned the base string, so I'm fairly certain that the new strings in conjunction with the slots might be the problem. The slots actually look fine, and the strings look fine in the slots, but obviously the base string is getting a little hung up from time to time. Anyway, it won't hurt to try. It is less of a problem now than before anyway, but still a bit of a problem. I know this is something I should have known about, but I actually have never had intonation issues with other instruments, other than one of my banjos and that was easily solved by tweaking the bridge. Fingers crossed. If problem persist, then I'll consult National.

RE: nut and intonation. If you do not know how to check if the nut is too high, just put on a capo, and see if the problem goes away. If so, the nut is suspect number one. PT

I did the capo test. The nut was the problem, and I've had the slots adjusted by a luthier. All is well now. I unknowingly created the problem when I changed the strings to a slightly larger size. My thanks to all for the ideas and help.
