I'm mostly a banjo player, but I've come to enjoy tenor guitars. I just recently got a new National single cone tenor guitar that was displayed at last weeks NAMM show. It arrives in my home within the week. I can tune it to match the 4 long strings on my 5-string banjos, which allows me to play anything on the tenor using the same chords, notes, and such. I play tenor using the same odd-ball 3-finger picking style that I use on the banjo. I can't wait to get it.

Congratulations! That should be a great sounding tenor guitar.

Hi there ! OK, what's the consensus about Tenor guitars ? What sounds the best ? Tricone pear shaped ones, single-cone pear-shaped ones, or single-cone guitar-shaped ones

Hi there ! OK, what's the consensus about Tenor guitars ? What sounds the best ? Tricone pear shaped ones, single-cone pear-shaped ones, or single-cone guitar-shaped ones They all sound really nice, but the pear-shaped ones were only made during the 20s and 30s, at least the ones from National. If you can find one, plus afford it, then you usually get the pleasure of spending a load of money on essential repair...like a new neck, new cones, new bridge, and maybe some other stuff as well. There were single-cone guitar-shaped ones from the 30s I think, but the guitar-shape is all that National makes now, and the one I got was a one-off demo for the recent NAMM. It was bought by Chicago Music, and I bought it from them, and I'm waiting to receive it as I type. I can't wait.

Hi there !
Here is your Tenor being played at NAMM. Well, it's competing against 2 or 3 other NRP guitars at least ! (And the guy playing it has his back to the camera !)

I love it. I couldn't see it very well, but there were times when I could hear it perfectly. Yes, that's my new tenor, slowing making it's way to Blowing Rock, NC, where it will be played with bluegrass, old time, blues, and just about anything else that comes my way. Of course, the banjo will remain my first love, but I intend to make plenty of time for the tenor. Thanks for posting the video. That's really cool. By the way, I think the 6-stringer might be a piccolo.
