I awhile back I promised photos of 2 recent vintage reso's I found and added to the herd. I was doing some work on the house today and had to take them all out of their nooks and cranny's so I decided it would be a great time to take some photos for insurance and other reasons. It was also great to play some of the "similar" instruments head to head as well. I'll give some non-expert opinions on a few…. First up, the 2 recent finds I made. I'm always looking for deals. I'm not at all wealthy, so I find ways to trade and wheel-n-deal to get what I want! These were both awesome finds and great deals. 1934 14 fret style 0 and mid-30's (no serial #) Model 45: This is the entire vintage family portrait: Non-vintage needs some love too! I am extremely lucky to have these! Like I said, I'm not even close to being wealthy, but if you look around there are deals to be had. Every one of these was a deal and has a great story!

Some non-expert observations from getting to play them head to head. The Duolian (1931, all original, no finish) is by far my favorite tone. It's just raw and the style I love. Surprisingly, the '92 NRP Radiotone has a very similar tone. Next favorites are my Dobros, Mod 37 and Mod 45 both from the mid 30's. My 2 Style 0's sound very different, which isn't a surprising with one being a 12 fret body and the other being a 14 fret body. The NRP Triolian is the only one pictured that I haven't completely bonded with. What is up with all that extra wood above the slots on the headstock? Ugly in my opinion. It's probably trade bait. I'll probably get flamed for this, but I think the 14 fret Republic Hwy 61 sounds very similar and even a little better, I found it in a repair shop. The Luthier there (a friend of mine) ordered some Republic in to sell but was appalled at the set ups. He completely went thru this one and it sounds great. I played it and wanted it, he wanted to unload them! Hope this is interesting to some of you!

You seem to have the same problem that I have: you need a bigger couch.

Both very nice collections. Each instrument looks happy to be with the others, whereas some collections just look incongruent...
