Looks like he`s not playing on the 1st fret, maybe the card(?) is now the nut. So it is working like a capo on the 1st fret.?? PT

Could it be that he repaired it ? Someone on another site identified the guitar as a Guyatone LG-65T suggested that it was filled in at the 1st fret due to being worn down. Here a pix of the guitar with that angled headstock bar , Harriet

I find it interesting that there have been some very good videos posted on this thread, but the one that gets a lot of comments is "what is that piece of cardboard under R.L. Burnside's guitar fret?"
