Zak, I have to share with my guitar player Dominique as he now owns the guitar-shape tenor 1931 and the pearl-shaped tenor (transition single) 1930. He said me yesterday, they sound different. Why? The guitar-shaped is made of german silver, Mike Lewis is checking 1st if the body material of the pearl-shaped tenor is made of brass or not... Investigaton time.

Square would definately trap the airflow. I recon an oval violin would be fine, except for reduced bow access. But then why not a guitar shaped violin? What came first, the violin or the guitar? It's all evolution. Different designs, different sounds, it depends what you're striving for!
