Hi there !
I think the selling price as very good. I'm pretty sure "your" one will have a wooden well - so will probably not be as loud as a metal well one. Wooden well Tricones might not be as desirable in the selling market - which is not a problem if you don't plan to ever sell it. As far as I have heard, the wooden well ones can sound really sweet. That info might be spefically about squareneck Tricones though.
Import taxes might be costly. You will likely need to find a well respected luthier in your country to work magic on a neck reset. Someone on this forum might be able to direct you to someone good/respected for working on vintage Nationals.
Well done though !

Hi timg,
Like Snakehips I recently bought a 1931 tricone based on pictures and faith in mankind and after duty and freight paid around $7000 so hopefully you have found a bargain, even if it needs work done on it which is quite possible. I recently saw a 1928 early 'wooden well' for $12,500 albeit from a highly respected dealer. Do let us know when your new baby arrives!

Thanks Snake and Graeme.
Here's hoping that she will need no work. I have had a few old tricone squarenecks. One was absolutely mint but sounded absolutely crap (probably needed new cones and removal of velvet etc). Another was a beautiful style 4 that I stupidly sold.
I'll update in a week or two when I have the guitar in hand.
Sometimes faith in mankind is rewarded, but it is a crapshoot.

Update: It took me a while to get the tricone to Australia, but the happy news is that I paid no import fees. So it was a bargain indeed. And the best part is that the Tricone sounds awesome, doesn't need any work, has great action with no buzzes and cleaned up well. The Tricone is happy to be with my pre-production Style 4 Weissenborn and Chaturangui. Links to pics below - I couldn't work out how to embed. Tim BodyClose UpPerfect Action Friends

Well done-I'm not in the least bit jealous! Seriously I hope you get as much pleasure from it as I do from mine.
