Early in Fine Resophonics history I seem to remember some 2cone resonators. The cover-plates looked very `space age` has anyone go one??? I`ve had an idea using 2 9 1/2" cones and would like to learn what not to do. The project will need a cast ali. `bridge` joining the 2 cones, which (I hope) might give a more `Dobroish` sustain. The use of my `Full-Metal-Jacket` cover-plate would mean a `normal` looking guitar would have something extra `under the hood` Thoughts please PT

Hi Pete, There were some unusual designs in Fine Resophonic's early period, but none to my knowledge were duo-cones, they were single cone and Tri-cone models. Shine On Michael

Strange, I remember getting a business card from Mike (25years ago) with what looked like a 2cone creation. It had the same look as the blue guitar above, but with a longer handrest/cover that looked like it covered 2 cones...... Maybe I`ll be the first to make one? PT I was thinking of an old Eko body to try the idea out , but 2x9 1/2" in a 20" body gives no room to `mess about` so I`ll put it in a `Box Dobro` A bit like this single spider cone

Have started, and think I can squeeze the 2 cones into the Eko body. (see also the `Cast spider/ bridge` thread which is my search to get someone to make the `H` bridge that links the 2 cones) It is going to have a VERY long neck... PT

Here is a pic of the wooden `plug` that the cast bridge will be made from. PT

Fab project! We did some alloy sand casting at school a million years ago, any joy finding someone to make the spider? I' guessing the cones will run North/South parallel to the neck, I wrongly assumed the would be side by side East/West.
Good luck keep the pictures coming, I love this sort of thing!
Paul
Edit, read your other post, caster found, game on!

Work goes on....... Its having a 3/4 ply `8` shape for the cones to sit on, then 2 half guitar shapes that sit on top that form the edges of the cone seating . The `8` shape has a `handle` that sticks out, and make the heal to which the neck will be glued (or maybe just screwed like a Fender) PT

My casting will (I hope) happen at the beginning of next month , as a test/demo. for new students. If it fails to get done I`ll have it cut out of a block PT

Could you mould it from epoxy resin?

Could you mould it from epoxy resin? Paul If your talking about the bridge..... I think the bridge has to be very stiff, if it has any bendiness this may remove attack and volume . It a `gut feeling` that epoxy would not be good. Carbon fibre might fit the bill but lets try casting first PT

Here is the ply shelf fitted,(well just pushed in ,before final sanding etc.) I`m wondering if I should put in some baffles to make the under-sides of the cone separate from each other? Each would have a number of holes (there are some in the bottom bout already) to `let the sound out`. Any thoughts? PT The rather uneven edge of the guitar will be cut about 20mm from the edge , then some sort of top (maybe a `Full Metal Jacket`) will go over the whole thing
