Nice! Bacon & Day headstocks seldom look "plain" and that one's no exception.

Hi there ! Here are two of my favourite headstocks : I had a picture somewhere of the headstocks of those two 14-fret Duolians with a 1934 Trojan headstock as well, but I need to delve around my portable external hard drive (from my old computer files) for that one. I love the Decals - especailly when they are all intact. Got a Style 1 roundneck Tricone coming with a lovely Decal too.

Those are in lovely condition, the amber tint of the original finish is a perfect colour too.
I've got a couple in for repair so I'll have Dobro and Triolian to add in at some point, but the ones above are what I'd grab first if the house was on fire. Well done with the Tricone, they're pretty scarce aren't they ? I sold the one I had to a Forum Member a few years ago as I didn't quite "get" the sound. He made it sound great though.

My 1933 Style O Headstock looks to be made from Beech, and Lionel's 1930 looks similar, although the slots are cut a little differently. I must consult the big book and see what it says.

Yes, that's the headstock of my 1922 GB-4. It has a 14" head and lots of bass, it sounds unlike any other guitar-banjo I've ever heard. As you would expect, it is really perfect for playing Papa Charlie Jackson tunes. I think it is the ultimate ragtime instrument.

Davey, here's one in an ornate style similar to your B&D. I uploaded a close-up of the headstock as an attachment so that you can see the inlays clearly. It's a 1926 "Fred Stewart Black Beauty" which is essentially a re-branded 1st version Gretsch Orchestrella (the 2d version from the 30s was a much cheaper instrument without the fancy ornamentation). Fred Stewart was SS Stewart's son, but he never did any of his own banjo manufacturing ( banjo nerd trivia). It isn't mine, belongs to the guy that plays tenor banjo with me. He also has a turn-of-the-previous-century Stahl with a 10" head and an unusually short 21" scale length which sounds particularly good for single-note melody stuff. The Fred Stewart is vastly superior for comping, especially with the incisiveness of the archtop tone ring, but the Stahl has a fatness to individual notes that you only get with an open-back. The Stahl looks like tiny side by side with my Gibson. Since I'm posting banjo photos, here are a mid-30s Kay Kraft and a 1930 Vega Style K belonging to our mandolin player, and my WW1-era Stella: And now, for the sake of unintentional hilarity, my " most ridiculous and obscenely oversized headstock" - the monstrosity atop my 1964 Hound Dog Taylor-approved Teisco WG-4L: Attachments:

Headstock Heaven. We should have a get together and put all our instruments in one room sometime.
I've only had the B and D a few days & it's my first Tenor Banjo but it's a lovely thing and good fun to play as a change from Mandolin. I've no idea what the correct technique is, but my left hand little finger has never been so busy. I'm hoping it will help out with Mandolin as a little finger tone-up.

Hi again ! I found the photo I was looking for. From left to right : 1934 Duolian, 1934 Trojan, 1935 Duolian And while we are at it, I like this one a lot : 2009 NRP German Silver Style 1.5 Tricone, with custom request of plain headstock and pearl National logo (instead of Iveroid headstock overlay)
