guess i'll learn to live with it. can't bring myself to mod this guitar, and that was my intentions when it was bought. I don't think that the deep nut slots hamper the playability or tone or sustain to any perceptible degree, the guitar rings nicely and has an astonishing amount of reverb. Unfortunately it eludes casual recording, as most of the "good stuff" (virtually all the bass, along with the chunkier low mid frequencies) comes out of the back of the guitar! As far as "modding" goes, I wouldn't consider trimming the nut and rendering the guitar more comfortable for you to play to be a "modification" - you shouldn't feel guilty about doing it. If you have doubts, remove and save the original nut, and install a new one cut to a comfortable height. It's not really invasive if done carefully. I always get mine out of the case when I want to play along to Charley Patton in Bb or B without a capo. I have it in open A today, and it feels "loose" with 13s. It also makes a great "travel" guitar, and you can actually play it while someone is sleeping in the next room, unlike a regular National!

Nice guitar, for some reason that 1133 looks more rose colored than red, heh, heh.

rickophonic, judging by your icon pic, i'd guess a fellow 1133 owner? invite you and Zak to post on the forum's designated thread for that model. that way your thoughts won't slip off into obscurity, as an auction/time based one like this will doubtlessly do. michaelmesser.proboards.com/thread/253/national-resophonic-student-model-1133mitchfit PS--Zak, i think MM talks about attaching a box to the back of his 1133 for recording in that thread. a good fix for the natural front/rear crossover system this guitar has toward treble and bass.
