I'm finding the middle finger is at a different angle and I like the sound it makes therefore, a little sharper for me. Basically I've always played two fingers, but some fast sucessions on the first string I've be trying to learn I like to use it.
I've started using a metal propik thumb pick with a national finger pick, first finger only. I think a metal thumb pick is unusual but my bass with a plastic pick was too heavy and I didn't like the way it sounded with the metal finger pick.
I had tried the metal thumbpick a couple of years ago and thought it was awful but now its ok, not sure if it's because my touch changed or not.

Hi,
I have just bought a couple of Dunlop finger pick sets to try it out, one metal, and one plastic. I find the metal ones more comfortable, but they sound scratchy on the low strings. The tone with the plastic picks seems louder and clearer, plus they are probably less rough on the instrument, but they feel less natural and comfortable. Could someone explain how the hot water technique is done?
Thanks.

Hi all, A storm knocked out my electricity for a couple days last week and without much else other to do than play music or read, I ended up grinding my picking nails to the point where it was getting painful. I tried some glue on acrylic cheapies and am pleasantly surprised at how much I liked them. Other than a bit brighter tone, they are easier to control than fingerpicks for me. Although A good temporary solution, Im not a big fan of isocyanate superglue and dont see myself regularly using it... i came across these www.stringsbymail.com/manufacturers/rico-nails-232/ Im wondering if anyone has tried these, seems popular with nylon players... the acrylic nails I tried wore down in about six hours and Im hoping these might be a bit more durable... This reminds me of back in the 70s I was using thin layers of toilet paper and clear nail varnish to protect my picking hand nails ( used by flamenco players apparently) and when I was playing in a cricket match in Yorkshire ( in England for any overseas readers) with a batting glove on to protect my preciious nails whilst in the field. Anyone who knows anything about Yorkshiremen and cricket will able able to guess the type of ribaldry I was subjected to for wearing a batting glove whilst fielding to prevent the hard ball breaking a finger nail !!! On reflection this might seem a pretty normal practice to our American friends playing baseball where a gloved hand when fielding seems to be standard equipment - I'll brace myself for the reaction if any comes my way.
Cheers Tim
