Below is a link to a short clip from new BBC4 series, Sound of Song, Episode 1 'The Recording Revolution,' featuring a Stroh violin, with emphasis on its utility in the context of early recording technologies (as demonstrated in the clip - strangely, couldn't work out how to directly embed the Beeb's video here..) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02grgqc(If you can access the BBC's i-player, the whole episode is available here for the next 28 days...)

Many thanks bod, that was great! When I try to see the whole prog Aunty Beeb's i-player unfortunately tells me that it won't serve content to my IP which isn't in Britain, but the clip you reference does play.. ;-) I'll boot up a copy of firefox with TOR (an IP spoofer that masks one's IP)and see if I can view it that way, which I have used to watch Wimbledon in the past..

Just came across this video by chance on youtube, unfortunately the linked site astroguitare.com seems to be non-existent and my web searches have failed to find any more info about it. Could any French speaker translate what "Hoodoo Man" is saying in the clip?
Cheers Tymus.

Hi again !
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I was in Belfast, N.Ireland today, walking to Dawson’s music shop, through a pedestrianised section of the centre - and didn’t I see not one, but two guys, one at each end of the street, playing Stroviol violins, begging for money. What are the chances of that, eh ?!!! They probably know each other as both begged in the same manner, both looking Romanian or thereabouts
