The Pocklington Acoustic Blues Weekend is now under new management! Thanks everyone for your support, it is very much appreciated. The good news is that I have now agreed to run the Pocklington weekend! The weekend will be much the same as they have always been, but I do intend to spice it up and bring in some new ideas. These additions will not be in the Arts Centre's printed brochure, but will appear on other publicity material. As it stands at present, this is what will be in the brochure..... 'Michael Messer's Acoustic Blues Weekend' 15th - 16th - 17th November 2013 Meeting on Friday 15th November at midday and classes starting at 1:30pm through until 5:00pm. Friday night - there is usually a student concert which will happen, but I am considering bringing in someone to do a set. Saturday classes run from 10:00am through to 5:00pm with an hour for lunch and a couple of coffee breaks. Saturday night - there will be a concert which is also open to the public. Sunday classes will start at 10:30 through until 3:000pm. Lunch will be provided by the Arts Centre. Tutors: Michael Messer - Bottleneck slide guitar Ed Genis - Acoustic blues guitar (incorporating fingerpicked country blues, rhythm and lead playing in an acoustic blues setting) Michael Messer & Ed Genis - A class/workshop about playing in a duo and how we arrange the guitar parts (maybe on Sunday). I may bring in another tutor to do one-on-one lessons through the weekend and hold an extra two hour class, maybe on Sunday morning, on one or two pre-war blues players (for example; Blind Boy Fuller & Robert Johnson). The prices are the same as they have been for a few years, but I am adding a day ticket for the Friday. Weekend ticket (including Saturday concert) - £135.00 Friday or Sunday ticket - £35.00 Saturday ticket (including concert) - £75 Saturday concert ticket - £10.00 That is pretty much what I have at present. I would be very interested to hear people's thoughts on what I am programming and what additions they might like to see at this event. The Feathers Hotel is the nearest place to book a room, but there are other cheaper options around town. The Arts Centre and many of our regular participants can advise about B & Bs around town. Any additions or changes to the programme will be on this thread. Thanks, Looking forward to it! Shine On Michael

Just to clarify to anyone who hasn't been to the Pocklington Blues Weekend.
If it goes ahead, it will be held at the Pocklington Arts Centre in North Yorkshire on the 15th, 16, and 17th of November.
Arrive at midday on Friday and classes start at around 13:30 through to 17:00. Then on Friday evening from 20:00 we have an evening of floor spots followed by a jam session into the wee hours. Saturday classes start at 10:00 through to midday, then 13:30 through to 17:00. Saturday night there is a staff/tutors concert which is also open to the public. After the concert there is another jam session through to the wee hours. Sunday classes start at 10:30 through until 13:00, then after some lunch there is an afternoon class which usually winds down at around 15:00.
Students have to find their own accommodation, which for most people is the Feathers Hotel, which is only 100 metres or so away from the Arts Centre.
The cost of the whole weekend is £135:00 - the cost of one day 'Saturday' including evening concert is £75:00
There are a few threads on this forum about the Pocklington Blues weekends, which has now been going for ten years.

As a regular pilgrim, I thoroughly recommend it. This is a great weekend at a gentle pace for folks of all abilities. It's also great to meet & chat with like minded folk. If you haven't been before, it's a great way to learn to play new stuff from one of the few real 'masters' in this genre. The tradition of sharing music by sitting in a circle and being shown by example is dying out. Don't let it happen!
I shall now step down from my soapbox :-)
Mike - have messaged Mike who has email details of a few others too.

Hi Michael,
Nightmare! This cannot be allowed to happen!! I totally agree with everything that Dom has said. This is the highlight of my year and has brought my playing on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of years.
Definitely count me in for the weekend.
I'll chase up everyone I know to bring this to their attention.
Fingers crossed....
Regards Mike

Could there be some sort of announcement to put on other Forums. For instance I am a member of Acoustic Soundboard, (a UK based forum), at least a couple of other members drop in here from time to time!
Keith.

Thanks Keith, your offer is much appreciated. Via this forum and some of the Pocklington regulars on Facebook, I think we are reaching everyone.
Let's wait and see what kind of deal I get offered before doing anything else.
I now have ten people saying they will definitely be there. We need to double that number, but not until we know what is going to happen

Can we assume that Graham (from Derby) will go? He's a safe bet.

The good news is that I have now agreed to run the Pocklington weekend!
The Pocklington Arts Centre brochure went to print yesterday and I had to have something ready for them to put in the 'What's On' section.
