Hi, I'm considering getting a Highlander IP-1X inline pickup for my Republic single cone resonator. I am considering the model with the external power source and the volume control.
Prices in the US are much cheaper than here in Australia.
I contacted Blue Star Music in San Diego CA who have this model. They said "Highlander does not recommend using a volume control with this pickup, as it introduces another component and a possible source of failure. However, they will produce this model with a volume control on request."
Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on the volume control issue with the Highlander?
Price with volume controller is $US280, w/o $US250.
Cheers,
Gordon.

Hi Gordon,
I have used Highlanders for many years and I know many musicians who also use them. However, I have never seen anyone using a Highlander with any type of volume control.
My advice would be to contact Highlander and ask them. The Highlander is an expensive pickup and the last thing you want to do is damage it. If Highlander will build you a box with a volume control, go with that because it will come with all their guarantees and back up.
Shine On Michael.

Hi Gordon, I ordered a ResoRocket with a factory-installed Highlander and a volume control from National last year. The pot and knob are mounted through the cover plate. I've had no problems, and I can't see how the addition of a volume pot to the circuit is any more a possible source of failure in a resophonic than any other pickup-equiped guitar. In my opinion, any guitar with a pickup that sees stage use needs a volume control, either on the instrument or through a foot pedal. Cheers, Phil
