This advert comes from the first BBC Handbook and shows one of the first speakers available for the "New fangled" RADIO RECEIVER. Date of Advert? - 1927/28. Coincidence or what

Wonder when they were first advertised in the USA - before then for sure? Does make you think.

Certainly does! It looks like a cone on a candle-stick, which is basically what it is! Is it a DAB radio?

Certainly does, can't think what though Ah, the GECoPHONE what's in a name, let me lower the whole tone (pun) of this and relate a totally unconnected story dating back to the dark ages when that awful bloke Hughie Green used run that awful TV show Opportunity Knocks where talent was judged by the audience clapping level on the so called CLAPonMETER..... anybody old enough to remember it, Phil? Well in short, I was in a band and much against our will the landlord of the pub where we played put us in for it - get the blackmail, you do it or no gigs! Come the audition and HG was as big a barsteward as you would ever wish to meet, as we finished our bit the guitarist (who had been consuming intoxicating liquor to get through the dreadful event) shouted out to the great man "What's our score on the GONoPHONE then Hughie...." it took him a minute to get it, then he went ballistic and told us to go forth and multiply. Gawd he could swear! Think about it
