I am always searching for unusual instruments, so I thought I would get this new thread going. The first instrument is a guitar owned by steel guitarist, BJ Cole. For more information about BJ, visit his website which is linked from my links page. BJ says > This was originally a standard guitar, adapted by my father into a dobro in the 1960's. He also embellished it with mother of pearl with my initials at the top. A unique instrument with a great sound! Shine On, Michael.

Hi Michael How do we post pics here? I've got a few bits and pieces which people might like to see, such my own "Federal" reso, like the one you've shown, it's converted from a regular flat-top, and my Resocaster Tele style electric.

Hi John,
To post pics on this forum > Go to my FAQs, I have put some instructions there. You will need to dump your pics somewhere on the Internet first & then link to them. Photobucket.com is a good place.
Once you get the hang of how to put pics on here it is really easy. It's better to become a member because then you can access your mesages and edit them....etc.
Shine On, Michael.

One that went on eBay a while ago ? No F holes - can't see the point but who knows - maybe it was unfinnished - or a 6 string tenor uke

Yes, Paul Norman makes carbon fibre bridges, and very good they are too. I fitted one to the last single-cone guitar I made - sounds good and it's very, very loud! I think he sometimes sells them on Ebay, but he's been moving workshops recently so he hasn't had any to sell for a couple of months.

Here is a pic of an unusual guitar made by a Canadian named Charles Brasher in approx 1935-45. He made the metal bodied guitars for members of his band. This model is called a Maui. He also made one called "Silvatone", that had a hula girl and palm trees engraved on the back and flowers engraved on the front. I think Colin may have one of those. They had their own style biscuit cone and have a great tone much like a pre war metal bodied Dobro. There is a researcher in Canada interested in any other sightings of these guitars. If you see any please let me know and I will relay the info to him so he can contact you. Paul.Once again, thank you Paul for these fantastic pictures & for the information about these Canadian resophonic guitars. Shine On, Michael.

Here are three of my favorites, all squarenecks: "The Phoenix," inspired by a D'Angelico Teardrop guitar and made by Carroll Benoit: "The Selmernator," an 8-string reso with a peg bender, inspired by Selmer Macafferi gypsy-jazz guitars and also built by Benoit: "The Weissonator," a tricone setup in a Weissenborn-style body, built by Maricopa Guitars:

Hello, Ian -- I suspected I might "see" you over here!
I suppose I should point out that I'm not the owner of any of the three guitars pictured above. None of my guitars are as unusual as those above.
I just exchanged e-mails with someone who has another unusual reso -- a 1990 Dobro "triplate" (tricone). He's been told that only two roundnecks and one squareneck were ever built. He's offered to send pictures, which I'll post here as soon as I get them.

Saw these the other day www.mattsenguitars.co.nz/Amazing what can be found when you have other things to do. The image search in google is the best way to find stuff that I've found.
