Hi just having a look on the internet about general family matters and searched for my cousin Alan and found your site and these pages. Nice to know he was so well thought of. Like his Dad John ,he was ,as I am , interested in all things mechanical and technical, his Dad was a fantastic engineer and worked on Rolls Royce engines for many years, my own Dad was an aircraft airframe builder for Fairey Aviation during the War.My Mum was an aircraft body coverer at the same plant. One of my earliest memories of John was him coming round to our place one weekend from University in a car he'd BUILT at the age of about 19 ! It was ,what was called then a Terrapin racer, similar to a Lotus 7. He became a teacher and I joined the Army so we saw little of each other as adults but got in touch occasionally, one of the last times we were in touch i told him I was building a kit car and he sent me a picture of a rocker cover he had made of cast aluminium emblazoned TIMMINS, made me feel really proud of the name and him. Nice to hear such nice comments about his work,I'd love to see one of his guitars up close. Coincidentally I have just started using carbon fibre composite myself, let's hope my efforts come somewhere near his. Thanks again guys.

For those who don't remember them, here's a terrapin racer. As a 19 or 20 year old he made a totally road legal version as a 9 or 10 year old very impressionable kid I was very interested and he was my hero for years. RIP Alan you are missed. Attachments:

As it is part of the Alan Timmins story I thought I would continue on this thread and mention the latest development in the world of carbon fibre resonator guitars.
After Alan died in 2008, his closest friend, Mark Makin, inherited some of the tools and moulds that Alan used to build his 'F1' guitars. To cut a long story short; Mark very kindly gave all this stuff to John Alderson - AKA 'Delta Resonator Guitars'. John was fascinated with what Alan had achieved and wanted to experiment further with the idea of carbon fibre resonator guitars. (I am sure Mark can explain this better than me)
A couple of months ago I saw the first one that John built and it is very impressive. I know that John has built a couple more since then and has improved one or two areas that we discussed on the first one.
I am sure Alan would be very pleased to know that his work is being continued. Here are a couple of clips of film of John Alderson and friends playing carbon fibre 'Dark Art' resonator guitars.
