Hi Michael,
Another quick question from me, if I can please. Will there be a chance to have a pick up fitted?
The idea behind these guitars really is brilliant. Congratulations!
Martin.

Hi Martin,
Yes there will be an option to have a pickup fitted. I am currently looking at which one to use as our 'recommended' pickup. It is all down to budget - the best resonator pickup available is the Highlander, but is too expensive for most people who want a budget priced guitar. I am looking at Schatten, Fishman and one or two others. Eventually I hope to launch our own brand of pickup, but first things first!
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, and for your enquiry. I hope to see you soon.
Shine On Michael.

That's brilliant. Really does sound like a great idea.
Hoping to see you at the Retreat in April, as long as the day job doesn't send me to a different part of the country that night.
Will one of the models be getting road tested by then?
Thanks again,
M.

Hi Michael, a mildly digressive thought - if this workshop can turn out good National repros, would they be up for doing similar with the early Stella guitars ( prices of which have gone sky-high)? I see they do woodbodies, & I'd guess that there would be a healthy demand for an authentic ladder-braced Stella, whichwas, after all, THE predominant guitar of early bluesmen; not that I'm suggesting that you should involve yourself, but maybe if the idea was floated by the workshop?.. just wondering..

Very cool!
Seeing as I just sold my SEGUI RESO-PHONIC to pay for a Gibson L1, I am now gassing for a reso! LOL
A few questions... can you please describe the distressed finish on the BLUES model?
Will the headstock logos be stamped ala the old DUOLIAN logos or a decal? If they were stamped with the BLUES and LIGHTNING in the same size font and parallel to MICHAEL MESSER... that would be really cool in my books.
Will there be a truss rod cover on the headstock? If so, what material and size?
I really like the fact that you are using a properly shaped headstock and flat cut f-holes.
I was just thinking a few months ago that someone should make a repro of the style-0 lightning. I can't believe you beat NRP to the punch.

Hi Michael,
Thank you for your enquiry. Answering your questions;
The finish on the BLUES model is not distressed, it is an aged paint and varnish finish. As soon as I can I will post close-up well lit photos for you to see. It is effective and should age well too.
The headstock logos will be stamped like National Duolians were. However, the logo is not a copy of the Duolian, it captures the feel of that depression era, and that is why we have chosen to give it our own unique identity. I could have done an exact copy, but that is not what I am trying to achieve. The artist's impression is a lot more bold that the actual stamp on the headstocks.
There will be a trussrod cover - it is black plastic, a good shape and quite subtle.
I have had the prototype at my home for a while now and I am absolutely knocked out with its playability and sound.
All will be revealed soon when I am able to post high quality photos.
Keep in touch,
Shine On Michael

Hi Ade, Welcome to the forum. I'm undertaking the distribution of the Blues and Lightning for Michael. Drop me an email through www.buskerguitars.co.uk and I'll keep you updated on when the first consignment is ready for sale. The Blues and Lightning are both single cone guitars. In terms of tone, the significant difference is that the Blues has a steel body and the Lightning has a brass body - giving two subtly distinctive voices. Robin

Hey Michael, these guitars look great. Any chance of the biscuit cover being removable, like the newer Nationals ? -It sure helps set up. The newer Nationals have 4 wee allan screws holding the cover in place.
Great work. Alister in Scotland

Hey Michael, these guitars look great! With your input I'm sure we can all trust the integrity of these astonishingly affordable reso's. One thing, have you thought of making the biscuit cover removable, like the new Nationals? It really helps with set up and intonation? It's held on with 4 wee allan screws. Would you be able to do a straight swop of a National Cover and your cover?
Regards, Big Al

Hi Alister,
Thank you for your message. It really is encouraging to get so much support from everyone.
You asked me two questions; (1) can one swap the coverplate for an NRP one with a removable hand-rest? >I have not done an exact measurement comparison, but I think everything should line up. (2) Have I thought of making the hand-rest removable for access to the bridge, like it is on National Reso-Phonic guitars? >I have not used NRP guitars as my benchmark in any way. The only benchmarks I have used are original National guitars and the fact that costs must be kept to a minimum. So the answer is that I have not included that design feature as it is an NRP innovation.
In addition; I think the removable hand-rest is a good idea, but not a necessity. National guitars had been played in tune for over seventy years before that design feature was added. I also think that it could be another point of buzz & rattles as the guitars get older. In theory I think the removable hand-rest is a great idea as it does give easy access to the bridge, especially for the final factory set-up.
I really appreciate & enjoy all these questions and suggestions, it is all very useful and helpful for me.
