This is a cautionary tale. I when to a gig recently and my fellow guitar player went to switch his amp on , only to find the switch had snapped off. He had no cover on the amp and it had caught on something. For many years I have used cardboard to make covers for mine and have had no such problems ( and a lot less scratches)  My new Blues Baby could be seen in the picture if I removed the new cardboard cover, The middle amp ( a Watkins Scout) has a cover made at least 30 years ago Pete |

I know a few people that make their own cardboard amp covers and they do offer good protection, until it rains! All my amps have made to measure amp covers, made by Roqsolid - www.amplifiercoversonline.com - I have been using them for years and they're not expensive.. Yes, I almost bought one of their covers. I think they do several grades, from rain cover to almost flight case thick.
They have lots of amps on file and can supply a perfect fill without you having to measure at all ( though Michael’s National might not have been on the list)

They're excellent and you are correct about them having lots of amp measurements on file. I guess they now have a 1957 National Westwood too!

Hot Covers are an excellent fit too. I like the fact that they have padding and a strong fabric coating material.

Plus one for Roqsolid and/or Hot Covers. I have examples of both and they are great. As well as providing protection from bashes and snagging, they are waterproof enough to keep gear dry while loading in and out of gigs.

They're also good in freezing cold hotel rooms. A valve amp with its cover on gets hotter quicker than if it was naked! And I am not joking, I have used my little Champ amp to heat my hotel room on more than one occasion. Leave the amp switched on wrapped in its coat overnight and they do a great job!

Elgen 100W with huge Partridge transformers.  Managed the same trick on an Ampeg V4BH too but not as hot as the Elgen.  |
