I think Fishman have nailed it and copied Highlander. I am going to ask them to send me a sample to try.

According to Mike Lewis, this is not a Highlander copy, it is just a plain old piezo stuck under the saddle. Oh dear....
Ah well, back to the drawing board.

Damn'd expensive for just a plain old piezo stuck under the ebony tipped saddle with no preamp.
Just shows you what marketing hype can do, doesn't it?

I'm going to contact them and suggest they do what we would all like them to do and make a proper one. I could do it, but I really don't want to go into the pickup business in a serious way.

This is odd, on the second page of a search for Highlander Resonator pickups I found what looks like a Highlander in a Fishmam box sold buy a French company ( picclick fr) I have not the computer skills to get it to show up here Pete

Hi there !
I've just ordered one.
I'll take detailed photos - and if possible to try without "damaging" the pickup, I'll see how it sounds. Hopefully I can send it back for a full refund if I don't like it.

Hi again !
On the Highlander biscuit thing (which is actually a NRP biscuit that Highlander route out the pickup channel), I looked at the where cone centre-well edge sits on the underside of the biscuit - AND I think it completely misses touching the pickup.
The biscuit is pretty much 60mm in diameter - and the rim of the cone that sits on the biscuit is around 58-60mm in diameter. The routed out slot in the biscuit is nearer 53-55mm in diameter.

Great, that’s almost all the information I need. The only missing dimensions are the width of the slot and the width of the piezo before it gets pushed into the slot. I think there is a little bit just before the slot that should be ‘unsquashed’.
Fingers crossed I haven’t found another ‘bum steer’ , it certainly looks the part.
Pete
I have several reso guitars with far from prefect body shapes and made of various materials, they sound ok, but not as good as a ‘full metal jacket’.As the Highlander takes all it’s signal just from the cone, will it give a much better amplified tone ( so more like a ‘real’ resonator) than I would get from a mic? Can there be much influence from the body on the Highlander? What results have people had fitting one to a very cheap Reso??

And another thing..... Pictures of the under side of the biscuit show the entrance hole for the cable almost under the saddle. Where should it be, and which side or position on the cone should the cable end up...... I am hoping this is the last thing I need to know! Many thanks in advance Pete

Hi again !
As best as I can measure, the slot is 2mm wide and the outer edge of the slot is 4mm in from the edge of the biscuit.
I think the cone sits on the outer 2mm of the biscuit - so roughly is perhaps up to 2mm away from touching the piezo strip or routed out channel.
Pics coming

Finally ! The circle routed out for the piezo cable to bend out & through a hole in the cone is on the tailpiece side of the biscuit. Most of that space created is unused by the pickup cable !
