Thanks Gus. You wouldn't happen to be part of Pristine would you?
The Tampa Red album is available from Pristine and does sound excellent. Luckily Robert Johnson always gets his complete catalogue reissued, whereas the Tampa Red album is the label's personal choice of tracks and will leave everyone asking....'why didn't they do my favourite Tampa Red track?'

No, I'm just someone who has recently ordered the RJ CDs from Pristine (still awaiting!) and saw on the email the Tampa Red was now available. Tampa Red isn't an artist I know much about but I'm enthused that a company seem to be trying to get the best out of old blues recordings. I hope they keep going, how abourt suggesting to THEM who to do next!! I'm assuming they can only do "out of copyright" recordings?

Hi Gus,
Thanks for clarification. Due to folks trying to advertize on this forum without my noticing, I am very sensitive! My apologies for the wrong assumption.
The Robert Johnson remasters are wonderful and worth the wait. The Tampa Red ones sound great too. Regarding your comment about in or out of copyright - it is not as straight forward as one might imagine. Robert Johnson is not out of copyright, both the publishing & the recordings are owned by King of Spades Music.
All record companies have to pay MCPS to manufacture CDs and I am sure that with Pristine's reputation and profile, they are doing everything correctly.

I too have ordered the RJ set ! There's an on-line forum on the Pristine site where Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson and early Son House have already been requested! Looks as though Patton may be next. As Andrew Rose of Pristine says "In the meantime I do need to continue what I started with Robert Johnson - which is a series of experiments designed to see how the XR system can be adapted for use in non-classical music, where certain aspects my usual methods of worked are compromised in one way or another".

Hello Chris,
I have received them and they sound really good. The CDs are way better than the mp3 download. These RJ remasters are essential. ;D

Michael, You are clearly a Robert Johnson Fan. Do you play any of his arrangements?

Hi Chris,
I have been studying the music of Robert Johnson on and off for the past four decades. I like to sit with his recordings and work out exactly what he is doing. I enjoy decoding his work and it is very good musical training. I have done that with many of his songs. I very rarely perform Robert Johnson songs. I used to, but it is such an over-used catalogue of songs that I prefer not to perform them. To me Robert Johnson's music is like sacred ground. I have been influenced by his recordings and on stage with the Second Mind Band we do a song that incorporates samples of RJ. There are traces of RJ licks & ideas in lots of my music, but I do not perform or record his arrangements of his songs.
He was a force of nature and nobody playing acoustic delta blues has ever equalled his work. He is one of the most important artists of the 20th century. IMO8-).

Hi guys - I just got the heads-up on this discussion thanks to a phone call from Paris and I thought I'd pop in and say hello and thank you for all the kind comments! Clearly it's going to be exceptionally difficult to talk here about my work without it constituting advertising - suffice to say that there's a lot of work in progress on the Blues, Jazz and Classical fronts using the XR remastering processes, and our new releases always appear on a Friday... :-)

Hi Andrew,
Welcome to our community. I am very pleased to hear from you.
I am very happy for you to give us news of your releases on this forum. Just give it to us as news, rather than advertizing.
To date, the blues remasters that you have released are: Robert Johnson Tampa Red Mississippi John Hurt
I have not heard the Tampa Red or John Hurt (apart from mp3s on your website), but I am sure they sound great.
I recommend that people mail order the proper CDs from you. I have both the mp3s and the CDs of your Robert Johnson release, and the CDs are way better.
Keep in touch Shine On Michael

If you're ready for a different file format, FLAC is lossless. You get a CD-quality download that's bit-identical to the original master when decompressed, and pay less. IMO it's the best way forward...
All tbe best

In that case, can you please tell me, in the alt. take of 'Phonograph', I can almost hear ( more sense, really, than actually hear,) him do that Tommy Johnson run down on the low D strings (Big Road) during the 'we played it on the sofa' line. Other times I think I'm imagining it. Is it there? I should love to know. best bob (PS) I might have mentioned it befoire, but in the book about Blind W.Mctell (Hand....Shoes) the writer mentions 'recently discovered pristine copies of the three Son House double-sided 78s from 1931.' Does anyone know if these are available? I just got these new remastered songs and man, they are wonderful!! A clean and fat tone!! ;D Highly recommended!!

Hi Poor Bob,
Do you have these remasters? If not, you really should get them.
Next time I am listening to RJ, I will listen out for that. But the best way to train your ears and to learn to play the songs, is to listen & listen.....
