Spoke with Marc Schoenberger on Saturday. He says he can get the original cones up and running, some slight repair work on the open seams over at National Resophonic as well. The original case is apparently a custom, which surprised me.

What's custom about the case? Looks pretty similar to a couple that I have

Is there the felt lining in yours?

Don’t worry about the solder seam split. NRP did an amazing job with 376 De Lux tricone resoldering a split across the edge where the tailpiece sits over. You can hardly see anything was done unless you look close.

Yes. They do good work over there.

Is there the felt lining in yours? There were two different grades of lining available at that time from the major case makers. Flannel lining and the more expensive plush lining. The plush lining was like a velvet type material. Both options came in a variety of colors. I have a case for a 1928 tricone that looks identical to yours, with the burgundy lining.

I guess yours is a custom case as well. I'll have to ask Marc if there are any other reasons why it may be a custom. He did mention the lining as being a factor. Maybe it will be covered in the appraisal.

The Tricone arrives tomorrow. Marc puts the manufacture at February/March 1928. Pictures forthcoming.

Hi again,
Have you found out what metal the well is made from ? The Acanthus engraved 376 De Lux that I had, had a German Silver well. Had a great sound. Later ones, I think have steel wells (but I might be wrong).

No I do not know, only that it is possibly the first metal well and one of the last flat backs.

My #233 roundneck was not soldered at all under the tailpiece. At first I thought it was cracked, but a closer look, it is obvious they didn't bother with that section, assuming because it is hidden. Is that not normal? I believe mine is very close date wise to this guitar and it is also flat back, studded tailpiece, spiral cone.
