Evening all As I’m brand new to the forum I’d thought I’d write a few lines about how I came to be here.
I’ve always wanted a resonator guitar to play the blues like my heroes. A National has always been the dream for me, ignited the first time I saw and played one at Gruhns guitars Nashville in the mid 90’s. Was only in my mid teens and not yet an experienced player so I couldn’t make much music on it (a vintage style O) and felt very heavy compared to the little Spanish and hohner strat copy I was still learning on. I just wasn't ready to play such a fine instrument but it sparked an interest that’s not gone away. Over the years I developed as a player especially of country blues and played all sorts of acoustic and electric guitars but never quite seemed to find a resonator.
Second big revelation came a couple of years ago at Notom guitar when a played a couple of 30’s Triolians. A ‘31 with a really flaking finish stood out and sounded so good..Played great all up the neck and really sang like a bird when I played slide..for a few minutes I was in my down home country blues musical heaven and was able to recreate the sounds I’d heard on so many of my favourite records by the likes of Scrapper Blackwell,Blind boy fuller and bukka white. The price tag was £2995 which I tried every which way to justify at the time as it’s was one of the best guitars I’d ever played but I just had to accept I couldn’t afford it so had to let go of the dream again.
Now I find myself again getting that urge to find that perfect resonator so thought I’d get in touch here to hear other people’s experiences and meet some like minded players who might point me in the right direction or at least give me some tips on where to look or who to speak to.
I’m in the South East near Maidenhead
Sorry for the life story but was nice to remember where this resonator urge began
All the best
