Dave Crocker is a good guy and well worth speaking to. He has been involved with National and Dobro instruments for a very long time.
Thanks Martyn

Hey. I was in Chicago at the Amigo Vintage Guitar event last May and Dave Crocker had one. I later discovered after chatting with him that he has a huge stock of Nationals so would be a good place to start. He co-owns the Amigo company which includes the worlds biggest vintage guitar show in Texas as well as being one of the top dealers for years. A good place to start even if just enquiring? His email is here... www.amigoguitarshows.com/contacts/Here’s a link to the pic I took of the guitar. You’ll need to click the link and then use the side arrow to locate the second pic in the series. It’s the guitar on the right. Big neck, didn’t balance well, sounded good though! Only one I’ve ever seen and I’m always looking! http://instagr.am/p/BjAEdk9nRUH Hey, wow, thanks so much for the tip! This guitar looks so awesome, even the pickguard has survived! I'll get in touch with him immediately, again: thank you! Cheers Andi

Happy to help Andi!
Dave Crocker was lovely to chat to and I didn’t realise how much of a big deal he is in the vintage world until after I chatted to him! Turns out he has sold super high end stuff to the biggest names in the business.
I suspect if he doesn’t have one of these paddle headstocks now he’ll know someone who does!
That one of his did sound good and yes the pickguard was a lovely point of interest.
He had a great Stella acoustic for $600 and also had one of those ‘Memphis Minnie’ National Archtops with no F-Holes and a pickup. Super rare and actually really nice. Was very tempted on both but ended up buying an old National Trojan and Dobro so had depleted my guitar fund.
The guy has really great stuff and couldn’t be more helpful.
Good luck!!

Andi, you should also call Ron at NoTom Guitars in Denmark Street, London. These days Ron is probably the UK's leading vintage guitar dealer and through his friendship with Mark Makin, Mike Lewis and me, plus his time working at the London Resonator Centre back in the 00s, he knows a lot about Nationals.

Stella was for sale at Chicago Vintage Guitar show last May. Was a flowery decal covered one with tailpiece. Very flaky finish around the strap button area (poss light water damage) and the neck had been re-varnished and then worn through again in the playing spots so the finish that was left on didn’t quite match the body. Sounded crazy good though and really brought to life the 1920s and 30s ragtime guitar sounds. Bet it’s gone now. Amigo have done a few shows around the USA since last May and it was cheap!
