I created this thread because Lloyd's post was in an unrelated thread.
Lloyd, welcome to our forum.

I'm new to resonators but have played ragtime/blues for years. I'm looking to buy a resonator and like the Michael Messer range (MM28 in particular) but have never seen one let alone played one and was hoping someone local would let me take a look if they have one or advise a newbie on what to look for as the market seems flooded with them!.

James’ Home of Tone is in Stourbridge if that’s anywhere close to you. Just down the road from Diamond Bottlenecks. James is a enthusiastic resonator player and UK dealer for Mule Resophonics. He’d admit that he’s not especially knowledgeable about MM Resonators though. Ian McWee at Diamond is hugely knowledgeable in all things slidey.
I bought a MM Lightning on the basis of its reputation and Michael’s demo videos on his website. If you’re looking for a first resonator I’d say your only problem is deciding which one to buy first. I don’t think you’ll do better for your money.

Hi Lloyd, I think groff means which guitar from the MM range! Mules are good I've heard but cost a bit and have a waiting list of a couple of years at least! You really won't do better than a MM guitar for the money! I'm sure I won't be the only one here who would recommend you check them out. Best wishes to you all, John

Lloyd wrote to me asking if he could try an MMB 28 before ordering one. Because I have none in stock and because my business is mail order only, I suggested Lloyd joined the forum and asked on here, as there is bound to be an MMB 28 near where he lives.
Shine On Michael.

Hi Lloyd I have three MM guitars the MM28 Blues, Blues 12fret( steel body) and the lightning. All 3 are great and have different sounds and feel. However as an all rounder and seeing as you have played ragtime/blues then I think the MM28 would be perfect very versatile lovely sound and tone whether fingerpicking in standard tuning or open tunings for slide. It has turned into my favourite actually and makes me think that my next one will be a wood bodied one as well. Just to add that Im in west sussex so cannot see you travelling to try them out otherwise you would be welcome to hear them! All best Rich

Thanks all for sharing your knowledge. Groff, I'm very close to Stourbridge, infact it was whilst in Diamond Bottlenecks that Ian suggested i look up MM guitars. I must admit, not heard of Home of Tone. . . . but will soon!

Hiya Lloyd! Great to see you've joined Michael's forum and it was good to meet you in the workshop last week I do know a couple of M.M's that used to live locally, but they'd both be 'Blues' steel-bodied, and we spoke more about the wood-bodied M.M 28 being the one for your needs...I'll see if we still have any contact details Slide On! Ian (D.B's)

I dont live in the midlands but I would recommend the blues 28.I have one here that a friend asked me to give the once over to and I found it very good, reminds me of an early wooden Triolian that I had at one time.I dont think you can go wrong with one of these.please note I have no affiliation with MM guitars
