stumbled on the below video last weekend.
convoluted story to introduce the event. Hank Williams [THE] playing at the grand ole opry, circa 1952. somehow the film ended up on "The Kate Smith Evening Hour" all the way up at NBC HQ, New York City. the band's electric player, Bob McNett has an unusual axe with a massive horn on the lower cutaway.
figger'd it for a Mosrite, but couldn't find any pics of this model. OK, he worked for Rickenbacker before he started his own business [fired for saying he was gonna make his own guitars] so maybe a Ricky? many period models looked similar, but no cigar.
further research showed that Semi Moseley didn't make his first guitar until 1954. chronologically challenged bum lead there.
had an exaggerated Fender-esque looking head stock, so looked there. nope, a tele's always been a tele.
i'm stumped. any early axe experts wanna help me out?
might be a unicorn, or a custom?
good close-up starts after steel solo @ 11:30-ish:

PS--worth watching entire vid for the Carters and other well knowns.

Its a solid body built by Paul Bigsby. He built several, most notably the one for Merle Travis that was borrowed by Leo Fender in the later 40’s...

Yep, it's a Bigsby.
The whole film is brilliant; Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Brother Oswald, June Carter, Maybelle and the sisters, Lonzo, Oscar and Cousin Jody (Cell Summey). And it was all brought to us by BAB-O!
I met Roy Acuff, Brother Oswald and June Carter. Lovely people.
Shine On Michael.

fredcapo, have to admit that i never equated the name "Bigsby" with anything but whammy bars. was totally unaware of the guitars/steels brand he built. sorry for delayed response, spent wednesday tuning up, changing engine oil and blade spindle bearings on riding lawn mower. only the foolish get behind on mowing their yards here in NETEX, and i was at least a coupl'a weeks late. [blades were set to the max height in low gear = 1 1/2+ on hour meter] speaks volumes about mitchfit's work ethic. (!) [ pd] your link didn't work for me, but went did a search on premier guitar and think i found the same one there last night. now today, i can't find it again, perhaps copyright issues? Russian hackers? very odd that his PUP design wasn't continued. need to check into that, perhaps demise was due to low voltage output. think i recall 3 and 4 ohm readings for neck and bridge PUPs from a sales advert i found for a late 1940's model. time induced degaussing shouldn't change resistance, methinks. now i wonder at origin of Don Helms' steel guitar... wanna do more research on this new [to me] guitar brand and esp the PUP design, but that will have to wait. gotta go ride the big lawn mower some today. lucky diesels require almost no tuning regimen. MM- all great talents. kicked the slats outta my crib the first time i heard "hey good looking". my father was born and raised near hazard, KY, so itself grew up on music and artists from the opry, lo-oosi-anner hay ride and hee-haw. for those in the UK who aren't aware of hee-haw, it was the cracker version of soul train. thanks to all for education. mitchfit
