I'm not all that up on Tricone models, but don't think I've seen one quite like this? Nat Tri

I have just looked quickly on my phone which can be dangerous with Nationals, but it looks to me like a standard late 20s Style 2 Tricone in need of some serious TLK. Someone has filed the studs off the tailpiece. Is there a number?

I wondered about that tailpiece. The serial # appears to be C133. Not looking at buying it, I just love to see whats out there and learn about them!

Looking at Marks Book (The Bible) it looks to be a 36 style 2, but I could be wrong as is often the case, and I thought I had the only engraved 36 style 2 !!!
Anyway somebody buy it and send it to Mike Lewis to work his magic again.
Regards
Lee

Think the serial no is 0133. 1927 style 2? Could well be worth a punt. (Looks like the guy stamping the s/n was a bit overenthusiastic) Seller feedback suggests a genuine sale.

Yep, it’s a very early Style 2.5 wild rose numbered 0133. It has the extra flowers on the coverplate that are not found after around 0550. It is interesting because it is the earliest round neck found that has the stamped production top grilles. All the instruments earlier than this have the early strip grilles. The seller is accurate in his assumption about value. If it was in excellent condition I could see it at 6-8k. It has, as Michael mentioned, had its studs filed off on the tailpiece. It is in a “rather tired” condition and , considering the broken neck is going to be a major restoration exercise. However, it is quite an early and important round neck (probably with a wooden well). I suggest it needs someone with a bit of vision and large pockets to pass it on to Mike Lewis for a few months!!

Hi there !
It's a bit difficult to tell from the grainy pictures but, other than the fretboard looking dried out (might need replaced, or maybe just lemon oiled), there seems to be a large chunk of neck heel missing. I'm sure Mike Lewis could glue in a chunk to replace the missing part and carve it beautifully to match.
One of my vintage Nationals has a break in the heel, like that - but it was glued back together and it's still going strong since then (restored by Dave King nearly 12yrs ago).
I don't think the seller mentions whether he has the broken heel section or not. I suppose as it's not pictured, he might not have it. It would be much better if he DID have it.
I'd much rather have that portion broken than a headstock break. If it didn't have a wooden well and the plating didn't look so poor, a broken heel wouldn't put me off buying it (at a reasonable price).

No bids on this yet with only two days to go. If I were looking for a vintage tricone I would put in an offer on the proviso the seller would be prepared to ship direct to Mike Lewis, having spoken to Mike first of course. Could be an astute purchase. (possibly)
STOP PRESS. Contacted the seller and he would be happy to ship to Paris. (Made sure he was aware it was the French one). Go for it someone!

Doesn't look like this is going to sell this time. I've got a rapport going with the seller who knows absolutely nothing about Nationals and told her exactly what she had to avoid her being ripped off. I suggested she may put it on the forum if she's OK about shipping which she is. Otherwise speak to Marc Schoenberger before doing anything. I've had to resist the temptation to bid myself--if it were to be brought up to scratch by Mike Lewis it would likely increase it's value by more than his fee to do the work.

Somebody got it for a good price - £2,700 GBP / $3,900 USD. It needs a serious restoration job, but done by the right person it will be a beautiful and collectable guitar. Done by the wrong person and the next owner will have to start again.
