Hmm-no definitive evidence of provenance.Buy it now for £20,000. (If your a rock star with money to burn so much the better) An item such as this should really be offered on a slightly more upmarket auction than ebay. The seller could merely be in possession of some photos of an original RJ album. Is that salmon or cod I smell??

FWIW! I've seen numbers stamped on 78s just like the ones in the picture at the Louisiana State Library in Baton Rouge... most of the library's collections analog recordings 78s, 33.3s as well as many 16mm films and tons of books have been sold off or... I am tempted to take a screenshot of the label, size it in photoshop, print it on a laserjet, glue it on one of my old scratched 78s, nail it to the wall... And be a "hipster personality ". LOL!!!!!! Fun to look at, thanks for posting the link. Jeff

It may well have come from a state library, and I reckon it is a genuine sale and not a scam. The vendor is what we in the UK call a 'chancer', which according to the dictionary is... a person who exploits an opportunity to further their own ends. In other words, it's worth a shot. There may well be a rich hipster out there that is prepared to pay $26,000.00 for it. When it comes to Robert Johnson 78 records, Crossroad Blues, is I believe the most collectable one. It's no more of a rip off than Spotify! .....Oops Shine On Michael

Ill be surprised if this disc sells for the asking price but in our world gone mad a 14 dollar investment in two bitcoins when they were first minted a few years ago would have covered it as of last week... A ten dollar 1920 US Indian head gold coin (aprox 600£ melt value) now sells for up to 100k so I guess anything is possible.
Apology for a bit of threadjackery but A much more realistic deal at about 10£ is a book I came across at the Library. Its a fictional mystery novel about a search for the missing grails of Robert Johnson recordings and I found it thoroughly entertaining. Author: Ace Atkins, Title: Crossroad Blues. ( amazon link was too big)
All best, Jeff

Thanks for the tip Jeff. Mrs. PD said "No!" to the record as a Christmas present for me but she's ordered a signed first edition of the Ace Atkins book instead. U$17.99 vs. U$26K - much better value, methinks.

Two days to go and 200 watchers! Still don't think it will sell.
