Thanks Lee, I'm quite pleased, although it had a 'look' before, none of it was original so I thought I'd refinish it in a way I like. I didn't strip it right back, sanded it smooth after removing strings and tailpiece. I didn't remove cover plate, I'd never done anything like that before and thought I'd leave well enough alone! I primed everything up with a silver coloured metal primer and finished with gold and silver metalic paint to which I applied a broken finish. It's not Duco, but I like to feel it's in the style of. I cleaned the fretboard with lemon oil and it came up nicely. Tailpiece came up shiny with some silvo wadding. Sanded down the neck and refinished with a varnish stain that matched the existing. I put it all back together, she tuned up nicely and I think she sounds great. Not a lot of money spent, all done in two days! Thanks again to you all for your help, best wishes, John

Praise indeed TT, and much appreciated! Thanks again to you all for your encouragement and advice. When I joined the forum a while back I had no idea it was going to be such a great experience. Having just bought my first reso.another charity shop find,a Dobro style Regal, I was more excited about the way it looked as to what it might sound like. My enquiries led me here, since then I've met many of you, both in 'real life' and chatting online. I've been to gigs I never would have gone to, enjoyed a workshop with Michael and am now the happy owner of a few more guitars. All in all it's perked me up no end! I look forward to meeting more of you in times to come,in the meantime keep playing those guitars we all love! Best wishes to you all, John

Meant to say earlier I have found a number on the headstock 1337 no prefix. In Marks book, duolians around that numbering seem mostly to have slotted headstocks with only a few flat ones. Having taken into account this is no way an exact science, my reading and other information kindly supplied by you guys, I'm dating it 1937. I know these sort of details are of interest to some of you, I don't mean to rattle on! Best wishes, John

It's me again! How are you all, well I hope. Since my last post about the guitar and after doing loads of reading up on the subject,(mostly on this forum and mostly written by you lot over the years), I decided I wasn't doing her justice and would do a total strip down and refinish. Never even having seen a cone before I had been holding back, but I wanted to do a proper job so out it came! I've got lots of photos, I would be happy to post as long as you all were interested. I've found a patent number on the coverplate, can't find any on the body. Is there a secret place I should be looking? I'll post pictures as best I can, I'll do a couple now to whet your appetite. As always any advice would be welcome. Best wishes to you all, John
