Perfect, as Austin Mayor Will Wynn has declared April 10th to be 'Jesse 'Guitar' Taylor Day!' To celebrate with song:

To celebrate with song:

A suggested donation of $20.00 will go directly to the newly created 'Jesse Taylor Fund,' which is targeted for helping musicians and their families, the Health Alliance For Austin Musicians (H.A.A.M.), and hepatitis-c victims.

To further inspire this celebration of Jesse's life, the South Austin Musuem of Popular Culture will be hosting the "For the Love of Jesse" art show on Sunday April 6th, from 3:00PM to 8:00PM. The exhibit will feature the original black-and-white illustrations by Taylor for the paperback book "Deal Me In" by Austin poet Alyce Guynn. A musical performance by The Texana Dames will begin at 5:00PM, and videos of some of Jesse's performances will begin at dusk.

Jesse Taylor, himself a victim of the ravages of hepatitis-c, was one of Texas' all time most influential guitarists. A product of the rough and tumble Lubbock music scene, Jesse grew up with folks like Ely, Jimmie Dale, Butch Hancock, Ponty, John X., T.J. MacFarland, and Lloyd Maines, and he toured and played with Joe, Butch, Jimmie Dale, Billy Joe Shaver, Angela Strehli, Kinky and literally dozens of other greats of Texas. While Jesse was Joe Ely's guitarist (1975-1982), even Linda Ronstadt tried to hire him away for her band. Jesse's music continues to inspire young players all over the globe. It will do so for generations to come.

Join those who worked and played with Jesse for a full evening of tribute. Help them raise money for the musicians and their families that need the financial and/or medical help that so many do not have. Like Jesse's life, it looks to be a wild musical ride, so get there early, stay late, and sing along loudly!
